of ticks and sex and Roger Federer -- sulle zecche, il sesso e Roger Federer

This post has nothing to do with sex but I get more page-views if I put the word SEX in the title, and since I am trying to convince my prospective editor that I am indeed a very popular blogger, all means are legitimate.

My daughter just left for her scout camp. She wouldn't miss it for anything in the world. It's funny how at home I must call her Kate, for the royal treatment she expects, and then as soon as she puts on her scout uniform she turns into Jane and could live on a tree with Tarzan.
The scouts leave at night after dark, board some old wooden boats and row the 40 km of the Zürich lake, from top to bottom. It takes them 12 hours of uninterrupted rowing. Then they crash in a beautiful field bordered by tall trees, set up camp and proceed to spend the next two weeks engaging in scout activities such as: cooking on a campfire, singing scout songs around the fire at night, hiking, swimming in the lake instead of showering, peeing and pooping in a ditch they dig in the woods, getting eaten alive by mosquitos and the occasional tick. That bitch.

A tick stood between me and Roger Federer. Two summers ago (yes, I still haven't gotten over it) Kate/Jane came back from her scouts camp with a fever, which immediately threw me into Lyme-disease panic. We had planned an excursion on our mountain-bikes in the gorgeous mountains that surround Valbella. Instead, I stayed home with Kate/Jane feeding her an antibiotic dose fit for a horse and told my son, that I can by all means call William for the aforementioned reason, to go ahead with his mountain bike without us. Big. Mistake.
So it happens that he runs into Roger Federer who was busy catching tadpoles with his girls on the shore of a small lake. The King (this post should have been titled "of Royalty", actually, or better still "Of sex and royalty") proceeded to agree to have his picture taken with my teenage son, complimented him on his bike and while patting him on the back, told him to be careful during the descent.

Ticks are tiny dangerous bitches.

-------------------------------------

Bastarda zecca.
