on dark chocolate and revenge -- sulla vendetta del cioccolato

So, one of the things that make me proud of living in Switzerland is certainly the annual pro-capita consumption of chocolate. But chocolate with 75% cacao?
I don’t think it was ever meant to be food.
I think it was originally an intermediate product in the processing of the cacao bean, until someone working on that production line needed to get back at an unfaithful boyfriend and wrapped up the 75%  stuff in silver foil to make it look like the real thing.

And now it’s become one of those things you need to say you like to show your sophistication.

Like truffles.

Perhaps, like truffles, it should be tasted in tiny amounts, grated parsimoniously on top of food to add that expensive old-tennis-shoes scent that is so popular among food connoisseurs.
Certainly that scores in chocolate’s favor, the lack of smell. Plus truffles don’t really serve any other practical use, whereas a 75% cacao chocolate bar is great as beer coaster, fly swatter and to level that annoying wobbling table.

---------------------------------------

Come i tartufi.

of the winning ticket -- sul biglietto vincente

So a few days ago I got a winning ticket and have been in a state of grace since then.

I took the Grumpy Girl and her friend N. to Bern to see the Bieber.
They queued stoically for 7 hours in front of the Stade de Suisse like the badass BELIEBERS they are, and when the doors finally opened, they ran and engaged in all the necessary shoving and elbowing and kicking to be the ones at the very front.
That's my girl.
They made it to the 5th row but it seemes that the blob of crazed teenage girls is like magma, it bubbles and changes shape the entire time before and during the concert, so they did at times graze the stage. It’s a matter of survival of the fittest.

When the concert was about to begin, I remained in the proximity of the stadium, feeling that in case of an emergency I could turn into Elastigirl from the Incredibles, who to protect her family, can turn into a shield, or a rocket or a parashoot.

I sat on a bench with a book and waited for the Bieber’s magic to erupt from the stadium into the dusk (yes, I cannot let go of the volcano metaphor, mind your own business), feeling a bit left out (quite literally) and trying to keep my Carpe Diem at bay.

And then… this guy comes by and… he has one last ticket to sell…
Just for fun I ask him...  how much?
20 Franken

Me looking like Munch’s Scream: “20 FRANKEN????”
In Switzerland going to the movies is already 18 bloody Franken!

Of course I took it and I got in just as the Bieber was emerging from the stage himself, my Carpe Diem restored in all its natural glory by that Teen Spirit that I normally keep hidden in my blood, all smug and triumphant from having just won the Bieber lottery.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
